Septo stated to the media on Thursday (March 6): "Two shoe factories located in Tangerang County have laid off a total of 4,000 workers.

Andra Soni, the governor of Banten Province, said:

The layoffs by the two companies are due to the global economic situation, which has led to a decrease in orders. One of the layoffs is related to Nike orders, which has affected the number of workers.

Septo said that these two shoe factories had applied for layoff permission from the local government since last year. He said that the layoff process has been ongoing since November 2024.

He said that the main reason for the mass layoffs at the two shoe factories is order problems. PT Adis Dimension Footwear and PT Victory Ching Luh received a continued decrease in orders.

But Septo assured that the government would be there to enforce the rights of victims of unemployment.

He concluded: "Rights are being realized."

It is reported that this layoff targeted many members of the Indonesian National Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI). KSPSI chairman Andi Gani Nena Wea subsequently urged the government to immediately form a special task force to quell the layoff storm.

Andi said that according to the Banten Manpower and Immigration Office, the reason for the layoffs is the weak demand from buyers. But according to the workers, there are differences in the details of the layoff numbers.
